Side Chair

Shown in Walnut with an oil and varnish finish, these side chairs are made with tapered mortise and tenon joints where the legs go into the seat, and straight mortise and tenons elsewhere. Hide Glue is used to allow for future repairs.

The front of the seat is 17” from the ground, a good height for the average person. The back of the seat is about 1” lower than the front, and the back of the chair is tilted back 10° from upright. This makes for comfortable dining and working at a desk. The seat has a shallow saddle.

Shown with our Wee Table. The technique for making these chairs lends itself well to making variations. If, for example, you would like a different size (say, a bench), different splay of the legs, or an arm chair, please get in touch with your ideas.
